I met a very nice couple today who are exploring ways to manage their kids. They are currently taking classes from Positive Parenting Solutions by Amy McCready, whom bases her methods on a number of thought leaders in psychology including Alfred Adler.
Alfred Adler was a philosopher and psychiatrist who believed humans have two basic needs: to belong, and to feel significant. Furthermore, all behavior is goal oriented, and a misbehaving child is a discouraged child.
It would be easy to use graphical gamification in Mobido to reward kids, but I’d like to create meaningful rewards that teach life skills. I’m exploring ways to apply Adler’s philosophy, and drive kids towards intrinsic rewards. And I’m eager to hear from other parents about meaningful and lasting reward systems. Please reach out to me if you have any ideas!
